The tour of the Demre of the World of Kekova, or as it is called, three in one, is both a pilgrimage trip to the temple of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and a visit to the ancient Greco-Roman theater in the city of Mira, and a yacht trip over the sunken city of Simena near Kekova Island. The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in honor of one of the most revered saints and is located in Demre. This place is one of the most significant Christian shrines in the East. In the temple you will admire the ancient frescoes and inspect the sarcophagus, where the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker were kept until the XI century, and you will be able to turn to the saint with prayers.
Despite the fact that at the moment a significant part of the ancient city of the World has not been excavated by archaeologists, but magnificent rock tombs and remains of the Greco-Roman theater have survived to this day. The Turkish island of Kekova (another name for it is Karavola) is a genuine delight among tourists with its sunken city of Simena (during the Lycian period, the city was called Dolihiste). You will discover a lot of archaeological material: amphorae and jugs, stone stairs, destroyed streets, embankments, sunken columns, fragments of statues and remains of buildings of the former great city. Interestingly, all these artifacts are remarkably visible through the water column of the Mediterranean Sea.
